Joel Bender is a leading editor in the independent film scene and has edited over 25 features films, crossing all genres including documentaries, horror, family films, suspense, rock musical, romantic comedy, spoof, gothic horror, art films, etc. Among the list are Vlad (national theatrical release), Face to Face (starring Scott Baio), and The Christmas Path (starring Vincent Spano).
Bender’s latest independent feature, as an editor and as a director, is the highly-controversial film Karla, based on the true story of Paul Bernardo and his wife, Karla Homolka, who were convicted of the kidnap, sexual abuse and murder of three young girls in Canada. He has also edited and directed independent films such as Midnight Kiss, the rock musical Rich Girl starring Jill Schoelen, Don Michael Paul, and the horror spoof The Immortalizer.
Bender has edited numerous television series, from kids shows, “Power Rangers” and “Sweet Valley High” to network reality shows like “Survivor” and “Amazing Race.”
Bender attended the prestigious School of the Visual Arts in New York City where he made award-winning short films. Still as a student, his films were exhibited at the National Film Theatre in London.
