Cartney Wearn
Writer/Director
Cartney Wearn began his film career in the world of documentaries where he was hired to write more than 20 titles. During that time, he was also working as a freelance writer, and sold more than 100 pieces to magazines and publications in a wide array of subjects. He soon realized his dream and transitioned into feature films.
Cartney was hired to write his first script for Kevin Moreton of Orbit Entertainment, and from there went on to sell or option screenplays to numerous producers and companies, including Green Moon Productions (Antonio Banderas’ company), The Chartoff Company (Rocky, Raging Bull, The Right Stuff), Brian Oliver (The Badge, Auto Focus), and most recently, the Zanuck Company (Jaws, Driving Miss Daisy, The Road to Perdition).
During that time, Cartney built upon his success as a screenwriter and began directing short films and theater productions. His short film Demon’s Bet won a festival award, and Rhino was nominated for yet another. His direction of a John Patrick Shanley play as part of a festival ran in Los Angeles for an extended run and received excellent reviews from Backstage West.
After becoming known for dramas and thrillers, Cartney was recently asked why a horror film? “Because the human engine was designed more than a million years ago to sustain at least three life-threatening surges each day, and if I can help maintain that quota, all the better.”
Pray for Morning represents Cartney’s feature directorial debut.
